| | | UW hockey: Denver shuts out Badgers | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 7:40:42 AM by Blog57 Team | | There was an unusually long wait between the final horn and the moment University of Wisconsin men's hockey coach Mike Eaves made his way to the Kohl Center media room Friday night. Eaves spent 30 minutes or so in the UW dressing room taking the psychological pulse of his players. He felt some negative energy swirling around and wanted to harness it before it got out of control. This was after the seventh- ranked Badgers endured a 2-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association loss to Denver before a crowd of 13,684. This was after UW (4-5-2 overall, 3-3-1 in league play) fell under .500 for the first time since October 2003. .... | |

| | | Hockey: Double duty for Nurul | | Posted Thursday, November 02, 2006 7:11:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | KUALA LUMPUR: Young Nurul Nadia Mohd Mokhtar will have to shoulder a heavy responsibility in the women's hockey team for the Doha Asian Games. The 18-year-old Penangite, who only resumed training in August after being out of action for seven months to recover from a knee surgery, will not only marshal the defence but will also have to play a key role to deliver goals from penalty corners. Nurul boasts of having a good record in scoring penalty corner goals. She has scored 20 goals with direct hits in 35 international matches. Seven of them were scored in her first senior international tournament at the Indira Ghandi tournament in 2003. Its not going to be easy for me to play a dual role in the Doha Asian Games. I am a bit rusty after the long layoff. I only joined the team in training two months ago and I am still having trouble to pull my act together, admitted Nurul. She was with the team for a five-match playing tour in Perth last month but said that she was disappointed with her performances. I only scored a penalty corner goal from the three attempts I took against the WAIS (Western Australian Institute of Sports), she said. I am a bit worried ...... | |

Kumar is racing against time to recover from a hamstring injury - which he picked up in training two weeks ago - to win a berth for the Asiad. The 27-year-old was cleared to resume full training last week but he has not featured in any of the friendly matches against the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). The doctor at the National Sports Institute (NSI) had advised the team not to field Kumar in a match just yet. Coach Wallace Tan said that they still had four matches against China next month to test Kumar. Kumar will have to fight hard to retain his status as the number one goalkeeper of the team. The other two goalkeeeper fighting for places in the final squad of 16 for the Doha Asian Games in December are Mohamed Khairul Nizam and Roslan Jamaluddin.
