| Saucon grad remembers athletics in will | | Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 3:13:20 PM by Blog57 Team | | L. SAUCON TWP. | More than 30 years after his graduation from Saucon Valley High School, a former athlete gave the district one of its largest donations to date. According to the estate of the late Douglas E. Williams, the district's athletic program is the recipient of nearly $37,000. Interim Athletic Director Robert Frey said the school is thankful for the sizeable contribution but has so far been unable to make contact with the 1975 graduate's family. "The only thing we have is a letter from the attorney for his estate saying that there was money left to the athletics department," he said. All the district knows about the late Williams, who died in 2005, is that he was a former swim team captain, Frey said. No one answered several phone calls made last week to Williams' parents' home in Center Valley.... | |

| | | Kenton Athletics - A New Choice In The Underserved Men's Body Care ... | | Posted Wednesday, January 17, 2007 1:26:15 PM by Blog57 Team | | Providence, RI — January 15, 2007 /SOAPWIRE/ — Men are becoming increasingly concerned with health and appearance. This is causing the men's body care market to grow at rates significantly faster than the female market—yet there are far fewer products available for men. Kenton Athletics is taking advantage of this fast-growing trend with its new line of natural body care products. The company is targeting active and athletic men—a consumer group that frequently purchases health-conscious and natural products. Kenton Athletics launched its first product, a 2-in-1 Body & Hair Wash, in late 2006. It doubles as a body wash and shampoo by using natural ingredients that are healthy for hair and skin. The on-the-go combo makes sense for men who lead active lifestyles because it eliminates the need to carry two bottles.... | |

| | | MLB: Athletics Fremont | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 7:29:36 PM by Blog57 Team | | FREMONT, Calif. The Oakland Athletics have reached a deal with Cisco Systems to build a ballpark in southern Fremont. That's according to city officials who met with the team's owner. The agreement would create a 32-thousand-to-35-thousand seat stadium to be named Cisco Field on a 143-acre parcel held by the company. If the plan is approved by the city, the A's could begin playing there as soon as 2011. Mayor Bob Wasserman says the city has not determined how much money it will ask for from the A's to pay for city services to support the ballpark. He says a formal announcement of the deal is planned for Tuesday at Cisco's San Jose headquarters. The A's currently share the Oakland Coliseum with the N-F-L's Raiders. The request for a meeting stems from a visit by Chuene on October 10, after which he declared that Alpha Kangueehi was still recognised as the President of Athletics Namibia despite having been ousted by AN members in August 2006. Following the public announcement by Chuene, Mutorwa called a press conference at which he reiterated Government's stance on athletics, which supported the special congress decision that removed Kangueehi. He called for an urgent meeting with the IAAF and Chuene before the end of this month.... | |

| | | Crossing boundaries? | | Posted Sunday, October 22, 2006 1:24:51 PM by Blog57 Team | | Take control of college sports, the Knight Foundation Commission implored university presidents and chancellors in its original document 15 years ago. Put an end to academic abuse and recruiting scandals. Slow commercialization and the arms race of exorbitant coaches' salaries and palatial facilities. Blow up the old model and restore order to athletics. Fast forward to Oct. 12. Kansas chancellor Robert Hemenway sat between his athletic director and an attorney. He read a statement to open his school's response to the NCAA's decision to impose a three-year probation for violations that happened over the last decade — all while Hemenway was in charge. "We failed," Hemenway said, "to live up to the standards we set for ourselves." The same could be said for all of college sports, at least in the eyes of the framers of the Knight Commission report and its update in 2001.... | |
